Today (05/22/04) is "San Francisco River clean-up day" (as part of the "National River Clean-Up Week").
So of course I was morally compelled to volunteer a few morning hours towards this worthy cause...Particularly since I love this river so much, I feel especially blessed living in Arizona and actually having a river run through our town!
The event was led by some USFS and BLM people. Several other folks  represented their  organizations, such as the local 4-wheelers, Phelps-Dodge Mining Co., A newly formed local anti-litter club "Southeast Arizona Clean and Beautiful", and  Mr. and Mrs. Ahman of Morenci High School...But it was 'yours truly' representing the "Arizona Herpetological Association"; and that mouthful of words caught the attention of everyone present. I made certain to wear my AHA shirt as well.
As I wandered along the river banks and roads looking for garbage and junk...It occurred to me that this was a lot like herping! So, here's a picture showing how Pilstrom tongs come in handy for picking up litter too!

Blake and I went to the Frisco river after school to mess around. There was a relaxed couple keeping their feet cool by sitting in lawn chairs out in the water. Suddenly, along came a herd of horses kicking up a rucus! The gray mare was somewhat challenging and ran circles around us humans prior to the rest of the herd entering. In short order they settled down and couldn't care less about our presence.
