Black Jack Anyone?

August 25, 2007...

We took a short drive up to the campground and looked down into the canyon...

April 2, 2006, I went on a short jaunt to explore Black Jack Canyon and find Black Jack Cave.

First off I saw these mule deer on the drive there...

After parking and donning my Camelback pack I started the easy descent into the riparian/transitional life zone towards Black Jack Spring...

I never did see any snakes on my jaunt, but I did find this timid little Tree Frog...

After a short walk upstream, I finally spied what looked to be Black jack Cave...it's more of an over hang really, but sure enough, the Amerinds had used this cave and left behind some indications. The much more recent illegal pot hunters were also in evidence.

Here's my artsy perspective designed to make a person wonder who and when used to live here...

A nice little overhang in the stream bottom...

I climbed up a large talus slide because there seemed to be a faint switch-backed trail.
I thought there might be another cave up at the top of it, there wasn't so I just took this picture of the canyon from above...

Anybody want to see my hoodoo?

Oh, hey! A hoodoo is a rocky spire like the one in the picture...What were you thinking?
