Western Hognosed Snake

Heterodon nasicus

The Mexican Hog Nosed Snake lives in the South Eastern Corner of Arizona.

It puts on quite a bluff display, hoping to make a predator think it is a dangerous viper. If that doesn't work, it will roll over on it's back, stick out it's tongue and play dead!

This animal is rear fanged, but almost never bites (It strikes during the bluff display with a closed mouth.).

They are primarily toad eaters.
