Terrestrial Garter Snake

Thamnophis elegans

A beautiful animal and valuable to have around. These are the "water snakes" that one often encounters in the Arizona highlands, particularly the trout fisheries such as the White Mountain lakes.

Also known as the 'wandering garter snake'.

The animal in the bottom two pics is a "reddish-brown" phase from the West Fork, Black River in Arizona.
