Western Ornate Desert Box Turtle

Terrapene ornata

These turtles live on land. Their home range is in the Southeastern region of Arizona, but I once found one even as far North as Clifton-Morenci.

The video and the top pictures are of a young specimen I relocated from Morenci. Notice how vibrant his markings are!

The male specimen in the bottom two pics was found on the road to Red Rocks, N.M. on April 28th, 2007. We also scooted 3 big mean Gopher snakes off the road this day.
